October 2026 Updates to Gaggle

In October we introduced FAI championship support, rebuilt group, meetup and competition pages around a live map, and added a flyability view to Explore and Home, alongside faster maps, reworked airspace advisories, and more reliable recording and flight alerts.

  1. FAI Championships and Competitions

    • Run multi-stage championships with stages, tasks you can drag between stages, a Final per stage, and a Stages view on phones.
    • Hidden navigation gates and waypoints, reporting points, timing declarations and obstacle-course scoring, including stage races and economy tasks with fuel doses.
    • Competition maps for navigating by landmarks, with map-styled satellite imagery, power lines, an official map scale, a scale bar, annotations, measuring tools and offline downloads.
    • Course photos for pilots, with a pre-flight viewer and an in-flight finder that works offline, scored on the results.
    • Dedicated competition devices with a competition flight layout, stopwatch and calculator, language and units set from the pilot’s nationality, and pilot location masking during the event.
    • Reveal my position in flight, with hold to confirm, the exact moment stored and scored with a configurable penalty.
    • Marshal tools for weigh-ins, judged tasks and forms, with a scale keypad and full-screen capture pages.
    • Pilot import with visual column mapping, samples, warnings and a pilot preview, keeping each pilot’s wing and engine.
    • Competition notices translated into each pilot’s language, shown in flight when a push never arrives, and results notices per task.
    • Pilots can raise a query about any score, and organisers answer it with penalties, DNS and outlanding checks.
    • Score sheets in the app, with proper file names and event branding.
    • Scan an XCTrack task QR code from the briefing and fly it like a leaderboard task.
  2. New Group, Meetup and Competition Pages

    • Rebuilt group, meetup and competition pages as panels over a single live map with obstacle courses and live pilots.
    • Each type of group is built with unique home screen cards, that switch based on event phase.
    • Meetups now have notices that can be sent to all pilots, read out over audio cues while flying.
  3. Flyability on Explore and Home

    • The Explore map now shows how flyable each site is, with a time bar to look ahead.
    • New Flying Sites card on Home showing five days of flyability for your favourite sites, with weather reasons, the best window and who is going.
    • Sites are now ranked by recent pilots and flights.
  4. Recording and Navigation

    • Customise your own map marker: style, size, colour (including your wing’s colour), a heading cone and the next waypoint pointer.
    • New reporting points on maps, route planning and in flight for Adventurer subscribers.
    • Improved knock detection with the phone in a pocket.
    • Reduced battery and GPU use while recording.
  5. Maps and Airspace

    • Rebuilt the map tile cache: satellite maps load about three times faster, failed tiles retry, and memory use is lower.
    • Rebuilt airspace advisories: notices only show near where they apply, large regional notices are listed separately, and a new upper altitude limit setting.
  6. Live Tracking and Replay

    • Live spectators now see each pilot’s aircraft type and climb rate, and tied scores share a rank.
    • Flight alerts arrive on time, and tapping an alert or a flying pilot reliably opens them.
    • Replay and the recording view show times on the flight’s own clock.
  7. Chat and Other Improvements

    • New Panels setting to draw solid panels instead of glass, used automatically on less powerful devices.
    • Block users from chat, and delete a private chat for yourself.
    • Group chat rooms are limited to accepted members, and chat mute settings are respected.
    • New Connected apps API for third-party apps, with developer docs linked from Settings.
    • Equipment and flight totals now show hours and minutes.
  8. Notable Bugs Fixed

    • Additional tweaks to recording hardening.
    • Fixed a power-line retry loop that could stall recording.
    • Fixed a crash when tapping outside the stop recording sheet after landing.
    • Fixed group join notifications for older profiles and showed an error when a join request answer fails.
    • Fixed Bluetooth devices not being removed after closing the page.
