Stopwatch and Calculator

Time laps with the in-flight stopwatch and work out distance, time or speed with the calculator on the competition flight screen.

Stopwatch and Calculator

Gaggle has a stopwatch you can use during a recording, and a calculator on the competition flight screen. Both have large buttons so you can use them with gloves.

Stopwatch

The stopwatch shows the total time and the lap you are timing. It keeps running if you restart the app during a flight, and each new recording starts with a reset stopwatch.

Where to find it

  • Competition flight screen: the stopwatch sits on the tool bar at the bottom. See Competition flight screen.
  • Custom recorder layouts: add the Stopwatch instrument from the time group when you build a layout. It can be 1 by 1, 2 by 1 or 2 by 2 cells. Custom layouts need the Adventurer plan. See Custom recorder layouts.

Use the stopwatch on a custom layout

  1. Tap the Stopwatch tile while recording. The Stopwatch sheet opens.
  2. Tap Start to start it.
  3. Tap Lap to record a lap. Each lap shows its own time and the total so far.
  4. Tap Stop to pause it, and Start to resume.
  5. Hold Reset to clear the times. A short tap does nothing, so you cannot wipe the times by accident.

Until you start it, the tile reads 0:00. Once running, it shows the total time and the number of the lap you are on, such as Lap 2. The sheet shows No laps yet until you record one. Lap works only while the stopwatch runs.

Use the stopwatch on the competition flight screen

On the competition flight screen the time sits in a small box on the tool bar, with an arrow next to it.

  1. Tap the time to start the stopwatch. It shows Ready until then.
  2. Tap the time again to record a lap. Each further tap records another lap.
  3. Tap the arrow, or press and hold the time, to open the Stopwatch panel. It has the same Lap, Stop or Start, and Reset buttons.
  4. Hold Reset to clear the times.
  5. Tap the arrow again to close the panel.

Calculator

The Calculator is a tool on the competition flight screen. Tap the calculator icon on the tool bar to open it, and tap it again to close it. It works out the third of distance, time and speed from the other two, in your own units.

  1. Tap a field: Distance, Time or Speed. The selected field has a thicker outline.
  2. Type the value on the number pad. The first digit replaces what the field held.
  3. Select a second field and type its value.
  4. Gaggle fills in the third field and marks it with an equals sign.

Notes on typing:

  • Distance and speed take a decimal point.
  • Time fills from the right, as on a kitchen timer. Typing 1 3 0 0 gives 0:13:00. The field shows hours, minutes and seconds.
  • The backspace key deletes the last digit.
  • The two fields you typed last are the inputs. If you type into the worked-out field, it becomes an input and Gaggle recalculates another.
  • Tap Clear to empty all three fields.

Use a measured distance

If the flight has the map Measure distance tool, you can use its result in the calculator.

  1. Measure a distance on the map with the measure tool. Close the measure tool when you are done. The measured path stays.
  2. Open the Calculator.
  3. Tap Use measured. The distance field fills with the length you measured.
  4. Type a time or a speed to get the other.

Use measured is greyed out until you have measured a path with at least two points.

The calculator uses only what you type or measure. It does not use your position, so it works on a masked flight.
