Hidden Gates and Waypoints
Add hidden gates and waypoints to an obstacle course, attach photos for pilots to find, and control when hidden scores and locations are published.
Hidden Gates and Waypoints
Leaderboards > Obstacle course > Organise
Hidden gates and waypoints score pilots without showing them where the scoring happens. Only organisers see them while the task runs. This article is for group admins who build the course. To build the rest of the course, see Obstacle Course.
Add a hidden waypoint
- Open the course editor: tap Organise, then Edit course.
- Select the Waypoint Task.
- Tap Add Hidden Waypoint. You can also switch an existing waypoint to Hidden.
- Place it on the map and set its Points Rewarded.
- Tap Done.
Only organisers see a hidden waypoint. It is left out of the task that pilots and spectators see, and its score stays private until it is released.
Add a hidden gate
- Select a Navigation Task.
- Tap Gates, then Add hidden gate.
- Choose its place in the sequence and set its points.
- Tap Done.
Hidden gates stay off the pilot map. Timing declarations cover the visible gates. Hidden gates get expected times between the declared ones, by distance. See Timing Declarations.
Set what a repeat crossing does
Open Configuration. Once the course has hidden waypoints, Hidden waypoint repeats appears under Scoring rules. One rule applies to all hidden waypoints.
- First crossing counts
- A repeat cancels it
- Last crossing counts
Add a photo to a hidden waypoint
A photo shows pilots what is at the waypoint. They look for it in flight.
- Select the hidden waypoint in the editor.
- Tap Add photo and choose the picture.
- Choose a Letter for the photo, then tap Done. Each photo needs its own letter.
You can tap Replace or Remove later.
Release the photos to pilots
Pilots do not see the photos until you release them. The Photos row in Organise shows the state.
- Photos release by themselves when the first task window that includes the waypoint task opens. The row shows the time.
- To release them sooner, tap Release photos to pilots and confirm. Pilots see the photos straight away.
- A course without a task window shows Not released. There is no task window. until you release the photos yourself.
Once released, the row reads Released to pilots. For how pilots see the photos, see Course Photos.
Release scores and reveal locations
Open the leaderboard, tap Organise, and find Hidden scoring under Results. Each task with hidden gates or waypoints has a sheet.
- Gate scores: choose On task complete or Manual release. Hidden gate scores count in the official result straight away, but reach public results only when they are released.
- Hidden waypoints: each waypoint is On flight complete or Manual release. For a manual one, tap Release score now and confirm. The score is published for every pilot who scored it and for later flights. Its location stays hidden. You cannot undo this.
- Publish final scores: publishes any held hidden scores and locks the task’s results now, even if the query window is still open. You cannot undo this.
- Reveal hidden locations: shows everyone where the hidden gates or waypoints were on the public map. It becomes available once the final scores are published. You cannot undo this.
If a hidden gate is no longer on a leg of the course, Gaggle asks you to place it in the course editor before you reveal the locations.
