Default Layout

Set up the default recorder screen, including orientation, map, font size, glass effect, Lift Assist guidance and which instruments show.

Default Layout

The default layout is the recorder screen most pilots fly with. It is the layout named Gaggle Default on the recorder start screen. Its settings apply every time you record with it, and they are free on every plan. Some instrument switches need a paid plan. See Instruments below.

Open it from the recorder start screen:

  1. Tap the gear icon at the top right to open Recorder Settings.
  2. Under Configurations, tap Default Layout.

If you want to build your own screens, tap Custom Layouts in the same list instead. See Custom recorder layouts.

Orientation

  • Lock Orientation keeps the recorder screen in one orientation while you fly. It is on by default.
  • With the lock on, choose Landscape or Portrait. A green tick shows your choice.

Turn the lock off to let the screen turn with your phone.

Map

Tap Map to open the in-flight map settings. The row shows the map you fly on. The settings cover your own marker, the base map, rain radar, power lines, thermal.kk7 layers, map orientation, zoom lock, map interactions, traffic size, the items drawn on the map and which markers show. See Map view.

Font Size

Use the Font Size slider to make the instrument numbers larger or smaller.

Instrument Display

The Glass switch adds a glass effect to all instruments for a more immersive look. The glass effect turns off while you tap the map.

Lift Assist guidance

Under Lift Assist guidance, the Enabled switch shows Lift Assist guidance automatically when useful lift is detected during your flight. It is on by default. It controls only what the default layout shows. The variometer sounds and guidance settings are separate. See Thermal Assist and Variometer.

Instruments

Two lists of switches decide which instruments the default layout shows. One applies to free flight, such as paragliding, and one to powered flight.

  • Free-Flight Instruments
  • Powered Flight Instruments

Each list has switches for:

  • Ground Speed
  • Wind Speed
  • Altitude
  • Height (AGL)
  • Climb Rate
  • Waypoints
  • Airspaces
  • Aircraft Nearby
  • Pilots Nearby
  • Flight Time
  • Flight Tasks

The powered list also has Fuel Level. Turn off what you do not use to keep the screen clear.

On the Wingman plan, Height (AGL), Waypoints, Airspaces, Pilots Nearby and Flight Tasks are locked. They need Frequent Flyer or Adventurer.
