Community > Challenges
Challenges are time-limited events. You attempt a challenge by flying it, and you earn its badge when one of your attempts is scored on the leaderboard. You can attempt it at any location and as often as you like to improve your score.
The Challenges page
Open Community, then tap Challenges. The page has four tabs:
- Challenges: current and upcoming challenges, grouped by month. A card shows the dates, a status chip such as Active, the aircraft and activity types, and a View Challenge button.
- Badges: the badges you have earned, each with the date you achieved it.
- Past: challenges that have ended.
- About: a short introduction to challenges.
If nothing is scheduled, the page says so. Check back later.

Open a challenge
Tap a card or View Challenge. The challenge has three pages. Tap the arrows at the bottom to move between them. The dots at the bottom show where you are.
- About: the dates, the aircraft and a sketch of the task.
- Leaderboard: the pilots ranked by score. Your own row is marked You. Tap a row to open that recording, and Load More for further down the list. A new challenge reads Leaderboard has no entries yet.
- My Attempts: your own flights for this challenge. Tap one to open it. Before your first attempt it reads No attempts yet, go out there and fly!
Tap the X at the top left to close the challenge.

Attempt a challenge
Attempt Challenge! shows at the bottom of the About page while the challenge is active. It is not available on the web app.
- Tap Attempt Challenge!.
- On Choose Location, drag and pinch the map to pick where you will fly it. The task is placed at that point.
- Read the note about your surroundings, safety and local regulations. Challenge recordings are public.
- Tap Let’s Go! to start recording.
Let’s Go! stays off when the challenge cannot be placed there, and the page says This challenge is currently not supported. Pick another spot.
Fly the task and stop the recording as usual. The attempt appears under My Attempts, and on the Leaderboard once it is scored. See Recording overview.
A challenge does not give you permission to fly a route. Check airspace, weather and local rules first. Which pilots and aircraft can take part depends on the challenge. Read its About page.
Who can take part
Only flights you record in Gaggle count towards a challenge. A recording you import from a file, or that arrives from another app, never scores. Partners can also write their own rules on the About page of a challenge, so read it before you fly.
Import tasks into a challenge
Partner admins can copy tasks from an existing course into a challenge. The cog (Settings) shows at the top of the challenge only for admins of the partner that owns it.
- Open the challenge and tap the cog.
- On Import from, pick one of your groups. Groups you imported from lately are listed under Recent, the rest under Your groups. Then pick the leaderboard whose course you want to copy.
- Tick the tasks to copy. Each navigation task, no-fly zone, airfield and image is listed, with the Waypoint Task when the course has waypoints. A map above the list highlights what you tick.
- Tap Import.
Images are copied into the challenge. Use the back arrow to pick a different course, and the X to close the sheet without importing. To build or edit the tasks themselves, see Obstacle course.
