Watch a Live Competition or Meetup

How to open the live view of a group, meetup or competition, switch between Live Tracking and a leaderboard, and what the waiting, sign-in and access screens mean.

Watch a Live Competition or Meetup

The live view shows a group, meetup or competition on a map while pilots fly. It follows the pilot who matters most and lets you switch to any other pilot. You do not have to fly to use it. For a single pilot you follow from Community, see Live Tracking.

Open the live view

You can open it from:

  1. the live tiles on a group’s home page
  2. the live button at the top of a leaderboard (tooltip Watch live), shown while someone from the group is flying
  3. the Event replays list on a leaderboard, by tapping a session marked Recording

See Group Leaderboards for the leaderboard page.

Choose what to watch

A button in the top controls shows the current view. Its tooltip is the name of that view. Tap it to switch.

  1. Tap the button. The list always starts with Live Tracking, which follows every pilot flying for the group.
  2. Pick a leaderboard to watch its scored view. Each obstacle course, paragliding task or paragliding competition leaderboard shows as its own entry.
  3. If a leaderboard has several sessions, each entry adds the session name after the leaderboard name.

A check mark shows what you are watching.

What the live view shows

The map follows one pilot. Tap another pilot’s marker or card, or swipe the pilot card sideways, to follow someone else. Pilots who are on the ground show as a chip. Tap a chip with several pilots to zoom in on them.

The panel on the map changes with the view:

  • Live Tracking has two tabs, Pilots and Recent activity. Tap a pilot in the list to follow them. Pilots without a position yet cannot be tapped.
  • A leaderboard with an obstacle course has more tabs. See Spectator Course, Standings and Scored Panels.

Recent activity

The Recent activity tab lists notable moments as they happen, such as scores, gates and safety signals. Tap a moment to follow its pilot. If a moment has a location, tap the location chip to open that point in your phone’s maps app.

Standings

The Leaderboard tab ranks the pilots. Tap a row to follow that pilot. While the organiser still holds back an official task result, the heading reads Live published standings and shows published scores only. A note under it reads Official task results may change the ranking. When no result is held back, the note reads Live scores are indicative and not final.

Commentary

On a competition, a commentary button sits in the top controls while a leaderboard is shown. See Live and Replay Commentary.

When coverage has not started

If the competition is not live yet, you see Live coverage hasn’t started yet. Leave the screen open. Gaggle checks again by itself and opens the map as soon as coverage begins. Tap Check now to look again straight away.

When you open a single pilot, Waiting for the first position appears until that pilot shares a position. The map opens by itself then.
