Timing Declarations

Declare the time you expect to take for each gate of a timed obstacle course task before you fly, and see how organisers manage declarations.

Timing Declarations

Some timed obstacle course tasks ask you to declare your times before you fly. You enter a time for each declared gate, and Gaggle uses them to score timing. Hidden gates get expected times between your declared ones, by distance. Declare before you take off.

You only see timing declarations when the course has declared gates and you are an accepted participant of the group. Spectators do not declare.

Open your declarations

You can reach them in two places.

  • On the leaderboard of the course, in the About card, under Your timing declarations. Each task row shows where its declaration stands.
  • On the record start screen, after you select the obstacle course task. A Timing declarations row shows how many tasks you have declared, for example “1 of 2 tasks declared”. If the course has several tasks, tap the row and choose one.

A task row can say Not declared, Declared, Course changed, declare again, or Saved on this phone · sends when you’re online. The last one means you saved while offline. The declaration sends when you are online again.

Declare your times

  1. Open the task from one of the places above.
  2. Check the line under the task name. It tells you what the times mean:
    • Time after you cross the start gate (seconds from start)
    • Flight time of each sector
    • Time of day, in the event’s time zone
  3. Tap a gate in the Gates list.
  4. Type the time. Use m:ss or h:mm:ss. For a time of day, use h:mm or h:mm:ss.
  5. Tap Next gate to move to the next one. Tap Done after the last gate.
  6. Tap Save declaration. Gaggle confirms with Declaration saved.

At the top you see the distance, duration and Average speed of your declared route. Under each leg Gaggle shows the speed you need to average. If a time is unrealistically fast, Gaggle shows Faster than a speed, followed by Check this time.

What Gaggle checks depends on the kind of time:

  • Time after you cross the start gate: each time must be more than zero and later than the gate before it.
  • Time of day: each time must be later than the gate before it.
  • Flight time of each sector: each time is that sector’s own duration, so it only needs to be more than zero. A later sector can be shorter than an earlier one.

Fill the times from a speed

If you plan to fly at a steady speed, let Gaggle fill the times.

  1. Tap Fill from planned speed.
  2. Enter your Planned speed. For a time of day, also enter the Planned start gate time.
  3. Tap Fill times.

Gaggle fills every gate. You can still change each time before you save.

If the course changes

If the organiser changes the declared gates or the declaration type, your old declaration no longer fits. The task shows Course changed, declare again. Declare again before you fly.

For organisers

Group admins see the pilots’ declarations in the Organise card on the leaderboard, under Pilot declarations. The row shows how many pilots have declared.

  1. Tap Pilot declarations.
  2. Pick a task if the course has more than one.
  3. Search by name with Search pilots, or filter with All, Not declared or Declared.
  4. Open a pilot’s row to see their declaration and its History.

To enter times for a pilot, for example from a paper declaration, tap Enter for pilot. Set Declared at to the time the pilot declared, then save. The entry applies to flights that took off after that time. It shows as Entered by an organiser.

To remove an organiser entry, tap Delete entry and confirm. The pilot’s own declarations stay.
