Choose or Scan a Task Before Takeoff

Pick the task your flight is scored against on the record start screen, or scan an XCTrack task QR code and fly it.

Choose or Scan a Task Before Takeoff

Gaggle scores your flight against a task. You choose the task on the record start screen, before take-off. Gaggle can suggest one, or you can scan a task QR code.

Choose a task

  1. Open the record start screen.
  2. Tap the task row. It shows the name of the selected task, or No Task Selected.
  3. In the Choose Task sheet, tap a task to select it. The sheet closes.

The sheet groups tasks like this:

  • Recommended: tasks near you, ranked by your location. Without a location fix, nothing is recommended or selected for you. The sheet then tells you to pick the task you want to score this flight against.
  • Other Tasks: all your other tasks.
  • Hidden: tasks you hid. It shows with a count when there are any. Tap it to see them.

The tasks come from the leaderboards of your groups, for example an obstacle course. If you have none, create an obstacle course leaderboard in one of your groups. See Obstacle Course.

To clear your choice, open the sheet and tap Remove at the top.

Hide and restore a task

Open the menu on a task tile.

  • Tap Hide to move the task to Hidden.
  • In the Hidden list, tap Restore to bring it back.

Scan a task QR code

If you fly a paraglider, a powered paraglider or a hang glider, you can scan an XCTrack task QR code from a briefing and fly it. Scanning works on any plan. It is not offered on competition devices.

  1. In the Choose Task sheet, tap Scan task QR.
  2. Allow camera access when your phone asks. If you refused it, tap Open Settings and allow the camera there. Gaggle returns to the scanner when you come back.
  3. Point the camera at the QR code.
  4. Gaggle shows the task on a map, with its distance, number of turnpoints and details such as the start time and the goal line.
  5. Tap Fly this task. The sheet closes and the task is selected.

To scan a different code, tap Rescan. If the code is not a valid task, the page says Error processing QR code. A QR code that is not a task is ignored and the camera keeps looking.

The scanned task stays on your device and shows at the top of the Choose Task sheet. It is offered only on the day you scanned it, because a task is flown the day it is set. To clear it, open its menu and tap Remove.
